A carpet cleaner that has cleaned someone’s carpet only once may lack the relationship for an automatic repurchase. In such cases it makes
sense to include an incentive for the next cleaning. Perhaps offering a 25% discount or do clean one room free, or clean their upholstery for
1/2 price.

    Letter and Brochure
    If you need to explain the benefits of repurchasing or using your service more often then a letter and brochure is advisable. For
    example, a carpet cleaning service that follows up after six months must educate the customer on the reasons why this best serve them.
    Here is a sample letter they might send:

    Dear Mr. Hansen,

    I am following up on the discussion we had about our Carpet Life Extension Program that reduces your carpet costs by up to 40% (A
    specific self serving benefit headline or first paragraph)

    Our Carpet Life Extension Program includes spot cleaning and conditioning your carpets every six months so they remain soft and new
    looking, while doubling your carpet life as well.

    In addition, the treatment dramatically reduces harmful dust mites, as well as the need to dust your furniture. (The specific benefits and
    outcome they will receive from using your product or service).

    The process requires about two hours. There is no need to move furniture or worry about damp carpet. We can do it anytime between 8
    am and 8 pm Monday through Saturday. (The specific actions you will take)

    Simply call us at 1-800-555-1212 or send in the reply card and we will set up a convenient time to perform the carpet enhancing service.

    PS Remember that you are not only reducing your carpet replacement cost by 50%, but also consistently enjoying a soft, lush, healthy
    carpet as well.

You can also offer a free cleaning when people agree to a one-year contract at $x per quarter for four cleanings, when you automatically bill it
to their credit card. This locks up $4x per year per customer.

Compelling Incentives
In the carpet cleaning business “Free Room Cleaned, when pay for 3 or more rooms” is a pretty typical offer. These have become standard
because they work. However, in such cases you need to find something more you can offer:
• This could include “Free Spot Removal for 1 year” – this keeps you in contact and builds incredible referrals as well.
• Free Animal Odor Treatment or Free Obedience Training for Your Animal
• If this leads to back-end opportunities then it is valuable.
• Free “New Carpet Replacement Points” – each cleaning they earn points towards future carpet purchases at your strategic endorsement
partners location.

Package Synergistic Products/Services
Offer “Up to X hours or Visits per Year” for a discounted price.

Other Ideas

1.
Set up a joint venture with a retail carpet outlet. Get a commission on every customer you bring them. When you try to get a prospect to buy
your carpet cleaning services, or when a dirty carpet obviously needs to be replaced, recommend the retail outlet. Make sure you give them a
business card to take to the retail outlet, or have another means of tracking your referrals.

2. Call other carpet cleaning businesses in your competitive area. Tell them that you are willing to buy their business if they are looking for a
way out. Make sure you don't pay any money up front if at all possible. Follow Scott's advice on Buying Businesses.

3. Send out a letter out to your customer base eight or ten weeks before Christmas or other major holidays. Tell them that you will get very
busy during that season and that they can book you in ahead of time and save a little money. You should be able to bring in many times the
cost of your mailing.
